Is There Anything in This World You Would Be Ready to Give Your Life For? marks Milica Tomić’s next solo exhibition with Charim, following her mid-career survey exhibition at Kunsthaus Graz and her inclusion in the 13th Berlin Biennale last year. The title is a quote by the artist’s mother, the Yugoslav actress and artist Marija Milutinović, a recurring figure and influence throughout Tomić’s practice.

Bringing together recent and key historical works, the exhibition foregrounds Tomić’s research-based practice across film, installation, and discursive forms that interrogate political and military violence, social amnesia, and the mapping of situated micro-histories against the unresolved violent legacies of the twentieth-century. Central to Tomić’s work is investigating the entanglement of private interests and economic profit with histories of collective violence – rendering visible the structural conditions through which these are produced, obscured, and perpetuated.

Drawing on archival materials and testimonial encounters, and structured around the Lacanian concept of the Borromean knot as a leitmotif, this site-specific research examines how these histories remain materially embedded in the present. It addresses a global condition shaped by the consolidation of militarised power, the normalisation of mass death, and the resurgence of nationalist state formations, revealing these as structural features of contemporary politics.
